Summer Multi PassWe are one of the few operators who can offer our guests the option of the fantastic Multipass! These passes are much sought after in the summer months as they are incredible value for money - the pass only costs a Euro a day and is perfect for any size of group who want an active holiday! As there are so many activities on offer during the summer, we feel that it is worthwhile to consider a Portes du Soleil Multipass – available from 12th June to the 12th September (This may change from year to year, these are the 2010 dates) With the pass you get access to:
And those are just some of its benefits! It also gives you discount on many of the activities that are found below.
On Two WheelsMountain BikingMountain Biking is without doubt the main attraction during the summer months. The Portes du Soleil area is vast, offering a staggering 650km of marked out trails for bikes, catering for every level of experience from the complete beginners to the Freeride pros. During the summer, there are 24 lifts open, which give access to all of the 650Km of bike trails the Portes du Soleil offers. All of the lifts are specially equipped to carry bikes and passes, like the winter, can be purchased for any duration between ½ days to a season for the Portes du Soleil, aswell as local passes for Morzine which are also available. There is also the Pass Portes du Soleil (for the brave/mad!) which is held on the last weekend of June. It offers people the chance to discover the Portes du Soleil in one day…! Should you like the sound of all of this but won’t be able to bring a bike with you, fear not, as there are plenty of shops around Morzine to cater for all of your needs. We recommend FB Freeride (Link to their actual website) for bike hire… Road BikingExcited by the Tour de France coming to Morzine this summer? We certainly are! So why not follow in their footsteps this summer and try out some of those famous routes, such as the Col du Joux Plane and the Col de la Ramaz.
Wet and WildWhite Water RaftingTake on the River Dranse and its rapids! But don’t worry, it’s not too bad! Suitable for families with children over the age of 8, it is a great day out! Hydro SpeedingHydro speeding may best be described as an alternative way to descend the rapids! You have a wetsuit, a personal floating ‘toboggan’, and that’s about it! Well, maybe a steady nerve will help! CanyoningCanyoning involves, climbing, abseiling, sliding and swimming down river canyons, so you can imagine it is for the brave! You do have a helmet and harness however, aswell as a qualified instructor so you are in safe hands! A must do for water enthusiasts! SwimmingThere are 2 main pools in Morzine, one of which is a 50 meter Olympic swimming pool, the other a children’s pool, all surrounded by beautiful lawns where you can catch some rays! Also on site is a large waterslide, which has a separate pool to ‘gather’ the people who choose to shoot down it!
High in the SkyClimbingThere is no shortage of climbing in Morzine, given its location in the heart of the Alps! The Rocher de la Chaux has around 80 routes catering for all levels and is close to Morzine. There is also an artificial wall in the Palais de Sports for those who maybe don’t fancy the high stuff! Via FerrataKind of like an extreme assault course, a Via Ferrata is a mountain route equipped with ladders, bridges, stemples and cables along the way, and combines the disciplines of climbing and scrambling but without the need for your own ropes! Guides are essential and we recommend you check out the French grading system to see what suits you given your experience! ParapentingParapenting is essentially running off a mountain with a winged parachute behind you and you fly/float down to the ground! Get fantastic views of Morzine from high above – you take off from a mountain behind the village! Beginners will have a qualified instructor tucked in behind them to guide you down, so you are in safe hands! You will just need a head for heights… The ‘Fantasticable’They should have maybe included the words ‘for the fearless’ in its title, as this zip wire runs for 3km from the top of the Chaux Fleurie lift in Chatel and over the Plaine Dranse, at speeds of up to 100kmph, at heights of 250 meters above the valley! Oh yes, and you go down head first… Tree Top Adventure CoursesThese three adventure park offer family fun in the trees, perfect for your cheeky monkeys! Skip through the trees by swinging on ropes, abseiling, rope bridges – kind of like Tarzan! Two of the 3 courses are for people above 135cm in height and one is specifically for children between 110 and 135cm!
And a Little More GroundedGolfThere are a host of golf Courses around Morzine, including the Royal Park Championship Course in Evian which is only a 40 minute drive down the valley. Closer to home there is an 18 hole par 70 course at Les Gets, and a 9 hole par 36 course in Avoriaz – don’t be put off by a 9 holer though, because at 1800m with views to stun you, this may be more than average! Donkey TrekkingHere’s one for the children! You guide your child’s donkey up to a mountain cheese making farm (don’t worry, you will have a group guide aswell!), where you will be introduced to cheesemaking and take in the views from the top! HikingThe French Alps are any hikers dream, offering challenging yet highly rewarding routes. There are plenty of books and maps available locally, and guides can be hired to take you on longer hikes that will leave you exhausted but strangely relaxed! PaintballGetting shot by paint pellets is quite understandably not everyones cup of tea, but it is a lot of fun! So get pumped up with adrenaline and go fight it out in the 100 year old forest that borders the Dranse River! Open to families but children must be 14 and over. Skate ParkBring your board along and show your skills! The Park is beside the Palais du Sports and free to use! Wining and DiningFor a reasonably small town Morzine offers a big selection of restaurants and bars! Which is fantastic for everyone! Walking around the town you will stumble across restaurants all over the place, offering everything from traditional Savoyard menus to full English breakfasts! There are also a number of fast food shacks around the town, serving up crepes, pizzas, burgers…and so on! These places stay open into the night so are perfect for a quick snack – after all, following a days hard activities you may just deserve some sort of calorific delight! Bars like restaurants are not hard to find, and again offer a wide choice! Naturally there is an Irish Bar called the Dixie Bar, complete with live music and football on screens. The Taille de Mas du Pléney is where the most of the action is, catering for all age groups, not just for the wild and young! So go on and explore the town and reward yourself after a long day! |
